Abstract
The 24th Biennial Conference and Scientific Meeting of the Medical Women's Association of Nigeria (MWAN) was held at the Yar'Adua Centre, Murtala Square, Kaduna, from 31 August to 3 September 2025. The conference was themed "Global Health, Ethics and Transformational Leadership in a Changing World."
The conference attracted approximately 600 participants, including female medical and dental practitioners from all states of the Federation. Distinguished guests included the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ms. Amina Mohammed, represented by the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative; the Governor of Kaduna State, represented by the Secretary to the State Government; representatives of the Emirs of Zazzau, Kano and Azara; policymakers from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Kaduna State Ministry of Health; the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria; heads of tertiary institutions; development partners; the Presidents of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and the Association of Public Health Physicians of Nigeria (APHPN); representatives of other professional associations; civil society organisations; and members of academia.
The biennial conference and scientific meeting served as a platform for female medical and dental practitioners, under the auspices of MWAN, to share scientific knowledge, exchange innovative ideas, strengthen professional networks, review and consolidate strategies for advancing women's health, and extend healthcare services to communities through various outreach programmes.
